This weekend, on Sunday July 28th, Whistler will host the Subaru IRONMAN Canada and IRONMAN Canada 70.3 . The participants in this event range from the professional athletes to those who simply wanted to step up to another challenge. And, what a challenge it is!! It is truly inspirational to be at the finish line just before midnight to cheer on those athletes who have been out on the course for almost 17 hours!
The best way to be a spectator this weekend is to hop on your bike to get around to various spots as the highway will be closed for a good portion of Sunday. Some of our favourite places to take in the race are Rainbow Park in the early morning for the swim start; Nicklaus North by the club house for the run, and to watch the racers come in to the finish in the Village. Or, if you find yourself with a few hours to spare you can always volunteer to assist with one of the many aid stations manned by local Whistler sports and charity groups.
